Bajil (Avalakki/Poha) Upkari - Red chilli
Bajil Upkari is a light breakfast that is usually served along with Upma/Khara Bath. This is easy to make and takes very less time.
You will need:
Paper Bajil - 2 cups (Beaten Rice/Paper Avalakki/Poha)
Grated Coconut - 1/2 cup
Sugar - 2 tsp
Saaru Powder - 2 tsp
Salt to Taste
Seasoning
Ghee/Oil - 2 tsp
Mustard - 1 tsp
Black Gram - 1 tsp
Red Chilli - 1 (broken)
Curry Leaves - 5-8
Mix grated coconut, sugar. saaru powder, salt.
Just before serving mix bajil (poha) to the coconut mixture using your hands so that the bajil (poha) becomes a little soft. Add the seasoning.
Serves about 2 people.
Makes a beautiful evening snack too.
To make Saaru Powder
You will need:
Coriander seeds - 2 tsp
Cumin seeds - 1/2 tsp
Fenugreek seeds - 1/4 tsp
Curry leaves - 10 leaves
Red Chillies -3
Asafoetida - 1 tsp
Roast all the ingredients and grind it to a powder with a little coconut. And the Saaru Powder is ready. Powder it without the coconut and it can be stored for about 15 days.
