Bottle gourd Soup

Bottlegourd is a body coolant and this soup is very good for summers. It fills your tummy without adding calories. 

You will need: 
Bottlegourd : 1/4 no. (grated)
Green Gram: 4 tbsp (cooked) (moong dal, hesaru beLe, Padangi, Padanji)
Coconut: 3-4 tbsp (grated)
Cumin: 1 tsp
Pepper: 1 tsp
Green Chilli: 1 (Optional)
Cardamom: 1 no. (powdered)
Ghee: 1 tsp
Salt to taste


You will have to: 
Cook bottlegourd in a pan with a little water. 
In a separate pan, roast cumin & pepper in a drop or 2 of ghee. 
Grind coconut, cumin, pepper and cardamom (Optional Green chilli)
Add this paste to the cooked bottlegourd and let it cook for a 3- 4 minutes. 
Add the cooked green gram and salt to the broth along with water to bring the soup to desired consistency. 
Let it boil for 4-5 minutes. 
Add the remaining ghee and serve. 

Skill Level: Intermediate 
Makes: 4 cups of soup
Preparation Time: 30 mins
Cooking Time: 15 mins (Plus Green gram cooking time)
Goes well with: Garlic Bread, flat bread or just like that

Tips: 
(i) Add Green chillies if you want the soup to be spicy
(ii) If you don't like coconut, replace it with Onion.
