Bread Upma

For a good evening snack or for a quick morning breakfast. If there is bread lying from the previous day, this is the best way to get rid of it. 

You will need: 

Bread - 8 slices
Onion - 2 - 3 (chopped finely)
Tomato - 1 (chopped finely - optional)
Green Chilli - 3 nos
Lemon juice - 1/2 lemon juice
Oil - 1 tbsp
Mustard seeds - 1 tsp
Black Gram - 1 tsp
Red Chilli - 1 no
Curry leaves -  4-6 leaves
Turmeric - 1 pinch
Sugar - 1 tsp
Salt to taste

Method:
  • Cut each bread slice into 9 pieces
  • Heat oil in a pan
  • Add mustard seeds. Once it crackles, add black gram. When the black gram turns brown, add crushed red chillies and curry leaves.
  • Add turmeric
  • Add Onion and saute it till brown.
  • Add tomato and saute for 2-3 minutes. 
  • Add lemon juice, add sugar, salt
  • Add the bread pieces. Saute for a few minutes. 
  • Garnish this with Coriander leaves.
  • Serve it hot.
Serves about 2 people
Skill level: Easy 
Goes well with: just like that
Cooking Time: 10-15 mins
Tip: Toast the bread slices applying a little butter on both sides. Using toasted bread slices gives a complete different taste to the Upma.
